Nico Williams has been living with persistent pain for months. The Athletic Bilbao forward is unable to shake off his recurring injuries: ankle, hamstrings, and especially pubalgia.
Nico Williams is at a crossroads. The club is now considering solutions that were previously dismissed. The conservative treatment followed so far has yielded no results. As a consequence, Nico plays very little and, when he is on the field, he appears far from his usual level.
Deprived of his explosiveness, he struggles to make a difference and has meager statistics this season: only five starts, one goal, and two assists across La Liga and the Champions League.
Is surgery an option?
His situation is reminiscent of his friend Lamine Yamal, who is also hindered by pubalgia. Meanwhile, the doctors at Athletic are examining the issue from all angles and have even consulted external experts. A surgical intervention is now a real option to try to put an end to this physical ordeal.
