A tense weekend at Olympique de Marseille. Breaking his silence after weeks of uncertainty, football director Medhi Benatia delivered a blunt speech targeting his players. True to his reputation, he criticized the group’s attitude without mentioning any of Habib Beye’s tactical decisions. But the OM coach is now also under fire.
Benatia is set to leave at the end of the season. With nothing to lose, he spoke openly. For four minutes on the record, the football director harshly criticized OM’s players. Instead of calming things down, his comments made matters worse. According to La Provence, his speech angered the locker room, with players finding his tone too harsh and his remarks about their lack of fighting spirit further escalating tensions.
Locker Room Divide Deepens
Internally, the discomfort runs deep. While Benatia is being challenged, he is no longer the only one. Habib Beye is struggling to win over the locker room. “Most of the players can’t stand the coach,” a source close to the squad revealed. A clear divide has formed, even though the team continues to train as usual.
On the pitch, the decline is becoming evident. Since Beye’s arrival, OM has dropped from 4th to 6th place. The club remains close to the podium, but the momentum is clearly negative.
The atmosphere in Marseille is turning explosive. And one question is now seriously being asked: is Beye’s reign already coming to an end?
