Named among the 30 nominees for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, Achraf Hakimi is openly embracing his ambition. Speaking to Canal+, the Paris Saint-Germain right-back admitted he now dreams of lifting football’s most prestigious individual award.
“When people put me in the Ballon d’Or debate, it’s a dream I never thought about. And now, if I have the chance to win it, I think I deserve it too. After the historic season I’ve had, not many players have scored in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final — and that’s even harder as a defender. The stats I’ve produced this year aren’t those of a normal defender. I think when a defender achieves that, he deserves it more than an attacker,” he explained.
While Hakimi is a credible contender, he’ll have to compete with a formidable rival from within his own locker room: Ousmane Dembélé, the favorite for the 2025 edition.
But the Moroccan’s ambitions go beyond personal accolades. After winning PSG’s first-ever Champions League, he now wants to make it two in a row in 2026: “We’re strong, but I know there are teams that have strengthened. We’re going to stay focused, take it game by game, and try to go back-to-back. Madrid, Barça, Liverpool, City… there are many contenders. But we’re ready,” he assured.
With Hakimi brimming with confidence, PSG can legitimately dream of another European triumph.
