Marseille wrapped up their pre-season with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa, but the night turned stormy at the Vélodrome. On the pitch and on the touchlines, tempers flared.
It all started with a fired-up Mason Greenwood. After opening the scoring by outclassing Tyrone Mings one-on-one, the OM forward ended the match in full provocation mode.
A dazzling dribble run, a smirk in Amadou Onana’s face, and a light shove were enough to set Mings off. The English defender charged in, tore Greenwood’s shirt, prompting the Marseille man to whip it off in response. Both players received yellow cards, as did Onana, caught in the fray.
But the tension didn’t stop there. In the dying minutes, Neal Maupay clattered into former OM midfielder Boubacar Kamara. On the sidelines, Roberto De Zerbi and Unai Emery went nose-to-nose in a heated exchange, with staff and security stepping in to prevent it from boiling over.
Goals, drama, and high tension… OM’s season looks set to start on an electric note.
