Paris Saint-Germain will not be playing in Ligue 1 this weekend. While the other clubs in the championship will indeed be on the pitch, Paris will instead… ease off a little. Here’s why.
While Chelsea will play on Saturday, PSG won’t, and will be in strategic pause mode. Their match against FC Nantes has been postponed to allow the Parisians to prepare in the best possible way for their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Chelsea FC.
PSG Given Extra Time to Prepare for Champions League Clash
After a 5–2 victory in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, Luis Enrique’s men will enjoy six days of recovery before the return leg in England, scheduled for Tuesday, March 17. A short week to recharge the batteries… and fine-tune the plan.
The decision was approved by the board of the Ligue de Football Professionnel, with the agreement of FC Nantes. The match will eventually be played during the week of April 20.
This type of adjustment is not new. For several seasons now, the LFP has agreed to move certain matches to help French clubs competing in European competitions and improve the UEFA coefficient. However, not everyone is as accommodating. RC Lens, for example, would reportedly be far less willing to help PSG by rescheduling a match set between two potential Champions League quarterfinals.
