Senny Mayulu’s absence against Rennes came as a surprise. Having recently extended his contract until 2031, the young PSG player was neither injured nor linked with a possible departure.
Was Mayulu’s omission a punishment? Yes… and no. It was simply a decision made by Luis Enrique. But Luis Enrique no longer wants to hand out places based on status. With a deeper squad at his disposal, he can now select the players who perform best during the week. Mayulu will therefore have to win back his place on the training ground, and he is unlikely to be the last important player to find himself temporarily left out of the squad this season.
