But according to Sport, this XXL revolution is hiding a real headache.
Things are getting complicated for José Mourinho. The new Real Madrid coach is stuck… because of UEFA regulations. The Champions League imposes very strict rules. In a 25-man squad, only 17 players can be registered freely. The remaining places must be reserved for players trained in the country, including four trained directly by the club. And that is where Real Madrid are starting to worry.
Mourinho’s Clear-Out Blocked by UEFA Rules
Last season, Real Madrid had several players who matched these criteria: Carvajal, Asencio, Fran García, Camavinga, Valverde, Ceballos, Rodrygo, Vinicius and Gonzalo. The problem is that many of them could leave the club this summer.

Carvajal is heading for the exit, while Asencio, Fran García, Ceballos and Gonzalo are being pushed out. Real Madrid are also listening to offers for Carreras and Camavinga. As a result, only Vinicius and Rodrygo seem truly certain to stay. Such a scenario would completely disrupt the balance of the UEFA squad list.
With Arda Güler now considered a locally trained player and the arrival of Marc Cucurella, Real Madrid can limit the damage slightly. But it is not enough. The club may be forced to keep certain players Mourinho wanted to sacrifice. Florentino Pérez now faces a burning dilemma: satisfy Mourinho’s desire for a major clear-out or respect European obligations. Options such as Rodri or Jon Martín could become strategic again. Madrid’s transfer window is underway, but the real trap may not come from the market… it may come from the rules.
