Mateus Fernandes to PSG? The rumor has been gaining momentum in recent days. Luis Campos is reportedly interested in the 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder as Paris Saint-Germain looks to further strengthen its growing Portuguese contingent. However, one man could disrupt the deal: José Mourinho.
José Mourinho is Portuguese, and that could change everything in the transfer race. PSG has managed to attract several of Portugal’s brightest talents in recent years, but the Special One is determined to put an end to that trend.
Mourinho Enters the Race for Mateus Fernandes
According to AS, the Portuguese coach, who continues to be heavily linked with the Real Madrid job, has asked Florentino Pérez to move for the former Sporting CP prospect. Such an intervention could seriously complicate PSG’s plans.
Fernandes is coming off an impressive season despite West Ham’s struggles. Technically gifted, energetic, and capable of playing multiple midfield roles, he fits the profile PSG is seeking alongside Vitinha and João Neves in the center of the pitch.
PSG will face fierce competition, however. In addition to Real Madrid, both Liverpool and Arsenal are closely monitoring the Portuguese U21 international. Reports in England suggest a deal could exceed €90 million, although West Ham’s sporting situation may force the club to lower its demands. One thing is certain: Mourinho appears determined to make life difficult for PSG in this transfer battle.
