Vinicius Junior has not forgotten. During the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, won by Real Madrid against Manchester City (2-1), the Brazilian winger found the net… and delivered a message.
After scoring, the Madrid star celebrated by mimicking tears, a direct response to a banner displayed by City supporters in February 2025. It read: “Stop crying your eyes out,” referring to the 2024 Ballon d’Or won by Rodri, ahead of Vinicius, who finished second.
A Personal Response to Past Criticism
Clearly affected by the incident at the time, the Brazilian had not forgotten the episode. “I had thought about this celebration because the last time I came here, they told me to stop crying,” he explained with a smile.
However, Vinicius was quick to ease tensions, showing respect toward the English crowd: “I have a lot of respect for Manchester City fans, they always behave very well. I hope they won’t get upset about this.”
