Some close to the players even say: “He thinks he’s Guardiola, but for now, he’s just Xabi.” The repeated leaks to the press indicate a divided locker room.
The message is not getting through
Despite 17 wins in 21 matches, Alonso is already facing an uncertain future, weakened by significant defeats (5-2 against Atlético, 1-0 at Liverpool).
Even Josep Pedrerol (El Chiringuito) has doubts: “I don’t know if Xabi’s message is getting through.”
In short: Real is winning, but the locker room is not fully behind its coach. If the results do not follow in the coming weeks, Xabi Alonso could soon see his future called into question…
