A case that shook South Korea has finally reached its verdict. A young woman in her twenties, identified as Yang, was sentenced on Monday to four years in prison for attempting to extort money from Son Heungmin using a fabricated pregnancy.
According to Yonhap News TV, Yang sent the South Korean star a fake fetal ultrasound image in late 2024, threatening to go public with her “pregnancy” unless he paid up. Under pressure, Son transferred 300 million won (over €175,000).
But the extortion didn’t stop there. Yang allegedly tried to squeeze an additional 70 million won (around €41,000) from him—this time with the help of her boyfriend, known as “Mr. Yong”. He has been sentenced to two years in prison for attempted blackmail.
Son Heungmin forced to testify
Both suspects, jailed since May, hoped to pressure the forward into silence. Instead, Son refused to give in and filed a formal complaint. The trial, held behind closed doors last month, required the Tottenham legend to appear in court to testify.
A sordid case now brought to a close… and a stark reminder of how vulnerable even global superstars like Son Heungmin can be off the pitch.
