Bad news for the French national team. According to Foot Mercato, William Saliba could be sidelined for several weeks. As a result, he may miss the upcoming World Cup.
Saliba is causing concern for Les Bleus ahead of the tournament. Already struggling physically before the final against PSG, the Arsenal defender is believed to have aggravated his injury during the match. The situation is worrying for the French Football Federation just days before the start of the World Cup.
France Facing a Defensive Dilemma
Still dealing with physical discomfort, Saliba will now undergo further medical examinations to determine the exact length of his absence. It would be a major setback for Didier Deschamps, who could lose one of his key defensive leaders at the worst possible moment.
Saliba would almost certainly have been a starter in France’s central defense. The question is now whether he should be replaced in the squad. There is also a sense of urgency, as the deadline for submitting France’s final World Cup roster is tonight, June 1.
With just two weeks remaining before France’s opening match against Senegal, the coaching staff is already facing difficult decisions. The road to the World Cup is getting off to a challenging start for Les Bleus.
