MLS: Lionel Messi criticizes his suspension after the All-Star Game
Lionel Messi doesn’t take punishment lightly. Back on the pitch during Inter Miami’s 2–1 win over CF Atlas in the Leagues Cup, the Argentine star delivered two assists — and a clear message to MLS.
Messi is still frustrated about his one-match suspension for skipping the All-Star Game, which caused him to miss the July 27 league match against Cincinnati. “They didn’t let me play, and I felt it physically,” he said. “At first, I was a bit heavy. I feel better when I’m playing — I need competition. Not playing actually made things worse for me.”
Messi could leave in december
Jordi Alba, also suspended for the same reason, agrees. The decision has annoyed Inter Miami’s leadership as well — majority owner Jorge Mas revealed that Messi was “very upset” and suggested this could impact how he views the league.
Messi remains under contract until December 31, 2025, and for now, he’s staying the course — but the tension between him and MLS is clearly growing.
