At 40, Thiago Silva is closing the final chapter of his remarkable career with a return to Fluminense. From AC Milan to PSG and Chelsea, the Brazilian defender left a lasting mark on European football. Yet, despite his stellar journey, Silva recently admitted to one major regret: never wearing the colors of FC Barcelona.
Speaking to Le Média Carré, the former Brazil captain opened up about a pivotal moment in his career. “Before I signed with PSG, Barcelona were really pushing. It was hard for me because I had just extended my contract with Milan. But Barça… that was the dream. I dreamed of playing for Barcelona,” he confessed.
From Barça Dreams to Parisian Nightmares
Silva’s candid admission reflects just how iconic the Catalan club remains—even for legends of the game. A childhood dream, ultimately hindered by timing and contractual obligations, never came to fruition.
Instead, Silva went on to become a long-standing captain of Paris Saint-Germain. Ironically, one of the darkest nights of his PSG tenure came at the hands of Barcelona—the infamous 2017 “Remontada,” where PSG were eliminated after a 6–1 defeat at Camp Nou.
Even as he bows out with grace, the missed opportunity to play for Barça clearly lingers in the mind of “O Monstro.”
