‘We deserved to win’: Luis Enrique in disbelief over PSG’s elimination

Paris Saint-Germain suffered a huge disappointment on Monday as they were knocked out of the Coupe de France in the round of 32, beaten 1-0 by Paris FC at the Parc des Princes. Ultra-dominant throughout the match, the Parisians ultimately paid the price for their lack of efficiency in front of goal.

After the game, Luis Enrique felt his team did not deserve such an outcome. “I think it’s very easy to analyze and judge this match. We created a lot of chances, we deserved to win this game, we played well. But to win in football, you have to score goals. You have to accept this defeat.”

Dominance without reward

The Spaniard then dismissed any suggestion of fatigue. “Tiredness? No, not at all. We took 25 shots, we created a lot of chances, we dominated the match from the first to the last minute, we did everything to win. I’m very happy with what I saw, with the intensity and the way the team played, but it’s a sport where you have to score goals. We clearly deserved to win,” he insisted on beIN Sports.

Despite the elimination, the Paris coach wanted to highlight the positives in his press conference. “There are always positive things to take away, you have to analyze it that way. It wasn’t our objective, of course, it’s a competition we like.”

“But you have to accept it, that’s how it is. On the other hand, if I have to lose a match or a competition, I’d like to lose it this way,” he concluded, underlining his players’ performance despite the result.
