England have really had no luck just days before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
The English squad has endured a particularly eventful start to its preparations. Between a shooting near its future base camp and an earthquake felt in the United States, the Three Lions would surely have preferred a calmer build-up before entering the tournament.
England’s World Cup Build-Up Disrupted
According to reports from several media outlets, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake was felt while the England delegation was on American soil. No injuries or major damage were reported. It was a spectacular episode that came only hours after another security alert.
During the night from Friday to Saturday, a shooting broke out in Kansas City, just a few kilometres from the facilities that will host England during the tournament. Local authorities reported nine injuries, none life-threatening. At this stage, no suspect has reportedly been arrested.
England are not the only team affected by the situation, as Lionel Messi’s Argentina and the Netherlands have also chosen Kansas City as their base camp for the competition. For now, Thomas Tuchel’s players have not been directly affected and are continuing their preparations in Florida before heading to Kansas City on June 13.
