The 26 players crowned world champions on Sunday will leave with a unique souvenir. In addition to the famous FIFA trophy and their medals, each player will receive a custom-made ring celebrating the title.
France’s players had already created rings to commemorate their 2018 World Cup triumph, but this time the initiative is official, with FIFA producing them. Inspired by North American sporting traditions, the award will be a first in World Cup history.
A Limited Edition of 2,026 Championship Rings
Until now, no football world champion had ever received an official ring after winning the tournament. The jewellery will be designed in the colours of the victorious national team and personalised for each player, commemorating their journey and triumph at the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The rings will not be reserved exclusively for the champions. Thirty bespoke rings will be produced for the winning squad and staff, while another 1,996 will be sold to supporters worldwide as officially licensed products. Immediately after the final, the winning captain and head coach will receive temporary rings before the personalised versions are officially presented at a later date.
Spain and Argentina will therefore be competing for more than just the trophy on Sunday. The future champions will make history by becoming the first players to receive this exclusive and symbolic FIFA award.
