It’s official: Jorginho is leaving Arsenal and making a surprising move to Brazil. The Italian international has signed with Flamengo after reaching the end of his contract in North London.
The 33-year-old midfielder joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 but only spent two and a half seasons with the Gunners. Though not always a regular starter, his experience and leadership were valuable to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Emotional farewell
Jorginho announced his departure via Instagram, sharing a heartfelt message: “It’s about feeling part of something bigger than yourself. When I arrived at Arsenal, I wasn’t just joining a club, I was stepping into a family. A team full of hunger. Passion. Purpose”.
“I gave everything I had every day, every match, not just for the results, but for this shirt, for the fans.
“Your support, it meant everything. Whether I was starting or on the bench, you made me feel valued, loved. That’s right in football, and I will never forget.
“Now, it’s time to say goodbye, or maybe see you soon. When a place feels like home, a farewell is never easy, but I leave with my head held high and my heart full.
“To my teammates, thank you for trusting me, for pushing me. To the coach, the staff, and the whole people behind the scenes, thank you for the support on the pitch, off the pitch, and for always be there for me with kindness and love.
“And to the fans, thank you for singing my name, for believing me. Thank you, Arsenal.”
New adventure in South America
The Euro 2021 winner is set to sign a three-year deal with Flamengo, one of Brazil’s most iconic clubs, who will take part in the upcoming Club World Cup. It marks a bold and unexpected step in Jorginho’s career, as he swaps European football for the South American scene.
From Napoli to Chelsea, Arsenal to now Flamengo, Jorginho’s journey continues — with a new rhythm, a new passion, and likely, a samba beat.
