Cristiano Ronaldo’s dream of a move to Brazil has hit a wall. Despite heavy speculation linking the Portuguese star to Flamengo ahead of the Club World Cup, the reality is quite different.
Flamengo’s sporting director, José Boto, shut down the rumor with a blunt response: “Making an investment just for the Club World Cup isn’t viable from a sporting perspective.”
The main obstacle? Ronaldo’s enormous salary at Al-Nassr — estimated at €200 million per year — is completely out of reach for Brazilian clubs.
Palmeiras and Botafogo also walk away
Other Brazilian powerhouses Palmeiras and Botafogo reportedly also passed on the opportunity, citing similar concerns about financial feasibility and long-term value.

While a move to Brazil is off the table, clubs in Morocco and Saudi Arabia are still said to be interested — even for a short-term deal. Ronaldo may be eager for one last global stage, but finding the right fit won’t be easy.
