Newcastle: Isak demands huge salary to stay

Alexander Isak is raising the pressure behind the scenes. While Newcastle rejected a €138 (120 M£) million offer from Liverpool, the Swedish striker is now pushing for a massive salary hike — €17 million net per year (15 M£) — if he is to stay at St James’ Park.

A broken promise? According to his camp, Isak was promised a raise last summer, but it never materialized. Former sporting director Paul Mitchell, now gone, reportedly blocked the move, believing Isak was already “well paid enough.”

While club chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan publicly backs Eddie Howe and insists Isak is not for sale, tensions are growing internally. No contract extension has been signed, and the striker is not ruling out a future exit if the issue isn’t resolved.

Liverpool moved on

With Newcastle refusing to negotiate, Liverpool has backed off and turned its attention to Hugo Ekitike. But Newcastle may soon need to act fast to defuse the situation.

Currently in pre-season training in Austria, Isak remains professional on the pitch. But behind the scenes, the pressure is building — and a potential fracture looms.
