Swedish striker Alexander Isak, 25, who scored 27 goals in 42 games last season, has now refused to play again for the Magpies.
The standoff is on. According to The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano, Isak has informed Newcastle that he will not take part in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa, nor in next week’s match against Liverpool.
Isak is determined to join the Reds, who have already tabled a €138m bid to lure him away from St James’ Park.
That offer was rejected by Newcastle, who remain intent on keeping their star forward. However, the player’s firm stance could force the club’s hierarchy to reconsider — especially if Liverpool return with an improved proposal.
