Dani Olmo: Barcelona’s Last Chance

La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have officially rejected the license requests for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor made by FC Barcelona, citing regulations that prevent players from obtaining a new license within the same season if they are already linked to the club.

The Dani Olmo case remains stalled at Barcelona. Both La Liga and the RFEF have denied the player’s registration. “After receiving the FC Barcelona’s license request for the mentioned players and reviewing the applicable federal regulations, the Monitoring Committee has decided not to grant the previous visa or the definitive license requested by FC Barcelona for Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Pau Víctor Delgado, in accordance with the literal interpretation of Articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the RFEF’s General Regulations, which prevent a player whose license is annulled from obtaining a new license with the same club during the same season,” explained the “monitoring committee,” a collaboration between the RFEF and La Liga.

Furthermore, La Liga confirmed that the club now complies with the 1:1 rule regarding financial fair play, allowing them to invest every euro generated from sales.

“FC Barcelona has complied with La Liga’s economic control requirements as of January 3, 2025, and the club has submitted the relevant documentation. As a result, La Liga’s budget validation body has decided to extend the limit of FC Barcelona’s sports squad costs starting from the aforementioned date.”

To challenge this decision and secure the registration of the two players, Barcelona will need to appeal to the Spanish Sports Administrative Court (CSD) or ordinary courts. Optimistic, Barcelona hopes for a favorable response by Tuesday.
