Real Madrid is looking for a reliable striker to back up Kylian Mbappé next season. Despite his incredible scoring record, Viktor Gyökeres won’t be that man.
Gyökeres too good to be a backup. Offered to Madrid, Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres — who scored 39 goals in 33 league games — was quickly dismissed as a candidate.
While the Swedish striker is appreciated internally, the €70 million fee and his “starter profile” don’t fit the club’s current strategy. Real wants a supporting cast member, not someone who’ll compete with Mbappé.
Budimir, a more realistic choice
Following Joselu’s departure to Al-Gharafa, Madrid is searching for a similar forward: aerially strong, physically robust, and willing to play a secondary role. According to AS, the main candidate is Ante Budimir of Osasuna.
The 32-year-old scored 21 goals in 38 La Liga games and could be available for just €8 million during a specific market window — a far more practical option for Los Blancos.
