Serge Aurier’s stint has come to an abrupt end. His club in the Iranian league wants to get rid of him as quickly as possible.
It has been a difficult late career chapter for the former PSG player. Signed last summer in an attempt to revive his career, Serge Aurier has suffered a crushing failure with Persepolis FC. The former mainstay of Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur played only four league matches and never managed to establish himself.
A failed gamble in Tehran
Hampered by health issues (hepatitis B) and an adaptation deemed complicated, the Ivorian failed to meet expectations. According to Tasnim News, the Tehran club has decided to terminate his contract, which was initially set to run until 2026, and is seeking a mutual termination as early as this winter. The estimated cost of the flop is around €537,000.
The verdict is clear: a brief spell and an increasingly uncertain end to Aurier’s career, as he now searches for a new destination. A return to Europe seems unlikely, and Serge Aurier could instead move on to another exotic league.
