Mission accomplished… before the operating room. After helping Santos narrowly avoid relegation, Neymar can finally think about himself. Weakened in recent weeks, the Brazilian star underwent another operation on his left knee, the third of his career on this joint.
Back at his training club, Neymar gritted his teeth until the end to save Santos, who ultimately finished 12th in the Brazilian Serie A. An immense effort despite the pain, which now allows him to turn the page on his sporting career… and to go under the knife.
World Cup 2026 in sight
The procedure, performed by the Brazilian national team’s doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, went well. On his hospital bed, Neymar appeared smiling and calm before the operation, already focused on what comes next. His main goal remains unchanged: to be ready for the 2026 World Cup.
The Brazilian forward “will immediately begin his rehabilitation process, which will be coordinated by his physiotherapist Rafael Martini,” the statement specifies. His return to competition is expected in February.
According to L’Équipe, the former PSG player is expected to extend his stay at Santos for an additional six months to complete his rehabilitation. At 34 years old at the time of his hoped-for return, Neymar is not expected to step onto the pitch before February 2026, before embarking on four intense months to try to regain the highest level. The challenge is immense… but Neymar has never stopped believing in it.
