It’s official: Olivier Giroud has signed with Lille. The 2018 World Cup winner has committed to the club until June 2026.
At 38 years old, Giroud makes a surprising comeback to Ligue 1, thirteen years after leaving Montpellier. Free after terminating his contract with Los Angeles FC, the French striker joins a young and ambitious Lille squad to provide valuable experience.
Speaking at his unveiling, Giroud said: “I’m very happy and excited to return to France, to come home. When Olivier Létang called me about this challenge, it was crystal clear. Coming back to Ligue 1 is symbolic, and I’ve always considered LOSC a top French club.”
Well aware of his leadership role, he added: “This team is young, talented, and heading into the Europa League. I want to help on the pitch, but also off it.”
Giroud is ready to begin this new chapter of his career, set to wear Lille’s colors for at least the next two seasons.
