Luka Modric (39), whose contract with Real Madrid is ending, may play his final match at the Santiago Bernabéu this Saturday against Real Sociedad (16:15).
Despite his desire for a one-year extension and the support of his future coach Xabi Alonso to keep him, the club’s management seems to have other plans. According to Cadena Cope, no extension will be offered to the Croatian midfielder, signaling the end of an era for one of Real Madrid’s legends. Saturday could mark the conclusion of his illustrious time at the club.
Departure of Another Real Madrid Veteran
This could also signal the end of an era with other departures on the horizon. Rodrygo is also set to leave. Veteran Lucas Vázquez will also bid farewell to Real Madrid after the Club World Cup.
The 33-year-old right-back and the club have mutually agreed not to renew his contract, which expires in June, according to Relevo. A key figure at the club since joining the academy in 2007, Vázquez has spent his entire career at Real, except for a loan spell at Espanyol in 2014-2015.
