Fermín López’s future is suddenly one of the hottest topics in Spain. The 22-year-old midfielder, tied to Barcelona until June 2029, is attracting serious interest from the Premier League – with Newcastle United leading the chase, according to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito.
Barça’s first vice-president Rafa Yuste tried to cool the speculation after the Champions League draw, insisting: “Fermín has a contract with the club, and we are happy with him. He is a Barça player.” Yet Newcastle appear determined to test that resolve with a blockbuster bid.
Reports claim the Magpies are ready to put €100m (around £85m) on the table, while also offering to quadruple the player’s current salary. Such an offer would be hard for any young talent to ignore, even one as highly valued at Camp Nou as López.
The Spaniard isn’t short of admirers either. Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs, adding more intrigue to a late-window saga. After recording 8 goals and 10 assists in 46 matches last season, López has emerged as one of Barça’s brightest assets – and now one of Europe’s hottest transfer stories.
