Is Neymar heading for an extension at Santos? His father is applying pressure. Still without a contract beyond June, Neymar could very well remain at Santos. His father, Neymar Senior, is actively campaigning for an extension, despite tense discussions with the club’s management.
At 33 years old, Neymar is nearing the end of his commitment with Santos. Having returned to Brazil to get his career back on track after leaving Saudi Arabia, the forward has not yet extended his contract, but the signs are positive. The club believes an agreement is possible, as does his father.
“I want him to stay,” Insists Neymar Senior
In statements to Globo, the player’s father reiterated his desire for Neymar to commit long-term to “Peixe” (Santos’ nickname). He praised an ideal environment for his son, combining rehabilitation, progressive playing time, and family support: “He is happy here. Santos is perfect for him. I want him to participate in this reconstruction.”
An Extension… But at What Price?
Marcelo Teixeira, the club’s president, is cautious, especially regarding finances. Neymar Senior quipped, “Look at his hand in his pocket, he doesn’t want to take it out! (laughs)” But the message is clear: the ball is in Santos’ court. Neymar wants to stay. All that remains is to find common ground.
