Incoming Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso may not have full control over transfers, but he’s already made his wishes clear: he wants a true striker. And that’s not Kylian Mbappé, who he sees as more effective on the wing, not as a central forward.
Alonso’s priority is Viktor Gyökeres, the powerhouse Swedish striker from Sporting CP, who has been on fire this season with 52 goals in 49 games. Physically dominant and incredibly consistent, Gyökeres fits the profile Alonso wants to lead his line. Estimated price tag: €70 million.
Top Target: Viktor Gyökeres, Plan B: Boniface or Schick
Should the Gyökeres deal fall through, Alonso is also eyeing two familiar faces from Bayer Leverkusen:
- Victor Boniface – explosive but injury-prone
- Patrik Schick – in strong form lately and a more experienced option
Both are viable, though riskier alternatives.
Mbappé on the Left, But What About Rodrygo?
The tactical layout is expected to be a 4-3-3, with Mbappé likely starting on the left wing. The rest of the setup? Still to be determined. But one thing is clear: Alonso wants his striker first—and then he’ll deal with the egos and dynamics.
One major consequence: Rodrygo could be pushed out, with a summer move increasingly likely.
