It’s all but official: Xabi Alonso is set to become the next manager of Real Madrid. After confirming his departure from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season, the Spanish tactician is inching closer to a return to the Santiago Bernabéu, where he’s expected to succeed Carlo Ancelotti.
He could even be on the touchline as early as June for the Club World Cup.
Multiple sources report that Alonso will sign a contract running until June 2028—a three-year deal. His salary is expected to be around €8 million gross per year, a notable bump from the €5.1M/year he earned in the Bundesliga.
Salary Fit for the Role – But Not as High as Barça Coach
That figure still falls short of Ancelotti’s €10.92M/year, and also trails Hansi Flick’s €10M salary at Barcelona. However, Madrid could revise the deal upwards—if the results deliver. The stage is set for Xabi Alonso to lead a new era at the Bernabéu.
