After joining Southampton this summer, Will Still has broken his silence on the controversy surrounding his exit from RC Lens.
Accused of plotting his move to England while still under contract in France, the Belgian coach firmly denies any wrongdoing.
“A lot has been said — and often unfairly,” he told La Voix du Nord. “I left Lens for both personal and professional reasons. The opportunity in England only became concrete after I left. I had no deal in place beforehand.”
Still insists it was never about jumping ship. “I’ve always said I wouldn’t sign with just anyone. It was all about timing.”
A decision shaped by personal life
At the heart of the move: his partner Emma Saunders, a British TV presenter who recently faced serious health issues. Still wanted to be closer to her and his family.
Despite the noise, he has fond memories of his time in France. “I had a fantastic year at Lens. I’m truly grateful to the fans for their support.”
