Like the Champions League and the revamped Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup could soon get a makeover.
According to The Telegraph, UEFA is considering replacing the traditional one-off clash between the Champions League winners and the Europa League champions with a four-team mini-tournament, staged just before domestic leagues kick off.
The concept, first floated in an internal UEFA document back in 2022, would turn the Super Cup into a true “season opener” for the Champions League, featuring semi-finals and a final.
While the plan had been shelved, it could be revived during the next bidding process for European TV rights. No launch date has been set, but the move would bring the Super Cup closer to the feel of major summer football events.
