Franco Mastantuono couldn’t have wished for a better birthday gift. On Thursday, August 14, the Argentine prodigy officially signed a six-year deal with Real Madrid, tying him to the club until June 2031.
The transfer from River Plate, worth around €45m including bonuses, had been agreed before the Club World Cup. Wearing the No.30 shirt, the 18-year-old will now look to make his mark in Europe.
Speaking to the media, Mastantuono confirmed he had been approached by PSG before choosing Madrid. “Several clubs were interested in me, and I respect them all. I did speak with Luis Enrique—he was very clear with me, and I congratulate him for the title they won on Wednesday. He’s a great coach who proved it this year. I also spoke with Xabi Alonso, and his call was very important for me. It showed his trust,” he said.
Despite PSG’s advances, Mastantuono admitted Real Madrid was always his first choice.
