Suspended for the UEFA Super Cup, Joao Neves didn’t play against Tottenham but still joined in the post-match celebrations after PSG’s shootout victory (2-2, 4-3 pens) — in a rather unusual way.
As the Portuguese midfielder prepared to lift the trophy, Vitinha, Marquinhos and Gonçalo Ramos playfully pulled his hair, a nod to the incident with Marc Cucurella in the Club World Cup final that earned Neves a red card.
A special 2 game ban
The 20-year-old, now a key figure for PSG, will also miss the Ligue 1 opener against Nantes on Sunday, serving the second match of his suspension. To keep him sharp, Luis Enrique’s staff have set up a tailored training programme during his absence.
FIFA had imposed this special two-game ban after referring the case to its disciplinary committee.
