Morocco says no to Messi and Argentina: a friendly match that will never take place… due to the overly demanding requests from the Argentine Federation.
The Moroccan Football Federation has rejected Argentina’s proposal for a friendly match, deeming the Albiceleste’s demands completely disproportionate. Between exorbitant costs, XXL logistical requests, and no guarantee of seeing Lionel Messi on the pitch, Morocco preferred to cut ties.
Argentina indeed wanted to charge 10 million euros just for their appearance, an astronomical amount, even for the reigning world champion.
In addition, there were business class plane tickets, particularly luxurious hospitality conditions, and several logistical advantages reserved for very large nations… or those who negotiate strongly.
Messi was not even guaranteed to come
But the most surprising point was the lack of guarantee regarding Lionel Messi’s presence, who is the number one attraction of the Argentine team. Agreeing to such a sum without the certainty of having the global football star on the field? A red line for the FRMF, which felt that the deal simply did not hold up.
