Completely improbable scene on Wednesday evening in front of the Jean-Bouin stadium. While supporters were calmly waiting to attend the Paris FC – OL match, four individuals were arrested in the middle of the line… and not for a ticket check.
Calmly, while France is on alert… they were about to attend a Ligue 1 match. The police were waiting for them as part of the investigation into the spectacular Louvre heist.
The suspects were preparing to enter the stadium when the unit swooped in. Total surprise: not the slightest gesture of resistance. The police apprehended them without incident, in front of several stunned supporters. A fifth alleged accomplice was arrested later that evening in La Courneuve.
88 million euros worth of jewelry to recover
According to the Paris prosecutor, one of the arrested individuals was already on the radar due to a DNA trace. The others are believed to be acquaintances who could shed light on the details of the heist, particularly the role of the driver of one of the scooters used in the getaway. They are minor players, far from organized crime, but linked to a case that resembles a movie.
The police custody could last until Sunday. One question remains: will these “in-stand” arrests finally lead to the recovery of the 88 million euros worth of stolen jewelry? Paris FC certainly did not expect to become the scene of a key episode in the investigation.
