Carlo Ancelotti reflects on his time at Real Madrid and praises almost everyone… except Mbappé: a discreet tackle? In the podcast The Rest Is Football, the Brazil coach makes this omission that seems intentional.
Carlo Ancelotti offered a lengthy tribute to Real Madrid 2.0: a team “without ego,” united around Modrić, Kroos, Benzema, and Carvajal, perfectly connected to young talents like Vinicius, Rodrygo, Valverde, and Camavinga. The Italian coach mentions everyone, including new signings Bellingham, Güler, and even Endrick, who arrived recently… except for a certain Kylian Mbappé.
“During my second spell at Real Madrid, I was fortunate to find a team without ego. Fantastic players like Modrić, Casemiro, Kroos, Carvajal, Benzema, without ego. We created a great connection with the young ones: Vini Jr, Rodrygo, Valverde, Camavinga… The club also helped a lot by signing incredible players like Bellingham, Güler, and Endrick. We were able to build a united group and win two Champions Leagues. Real Madrid is truly a fantastic club,” Ancelotti said.
Mbappé, a simple oversight?
An intriguing oversight. While the Frenchman has become one of the club’s biggest stars, his non-mention in a speech where Ancelotti lists the key elements of his success raises eyebrows. Intentional? A simple distraction? Or a subtle message directed at a player whose integration and ego management have often been debated?
Ancelotti, for his part, speaks of a “united” and “ego-free” locker room. And by mentioning everyone except Mbappé, he may have delivered the most discreet… but the most significant tackle.
