An unbelievable scene in La Liga: during the 2022–2023 season, FC Barcelona reportedly asked Robert Lewandowski to ease off in front of goal.
A goal machine in the Bundesliga, Lewandowski suddenly had to hit the brakes at Barça. Why? Because scoring just two more goals would have triggered a €2.5 million bonus owed to Bayern Munich as part of his transfer deal.
In the end, Lewandowski didn’t score in the final two league matches. Coincidence? Financial “management”? Direct pressure? Officially, nothing proves it was intentional… but the timing has raised plenty of eyebrows.
Silent Lewa, big savings
The story comes from his biography “Lewandowski. Le vrai.”, and was echoed by Sport.
A revealing episode that perfectly illustrates the financial chaos at Barcelona at the time — to the point of slowing down one of the greatest scorers of the century.
