Things are heating up in Manchester City’s goalkeeping department. Just a few months after a major clearout among the keepers, James Trafford and Stefan Ortega already want to pack their bags.
Trafford, signed for €27 million and convinced he would become the future No.1 after Ederson’s expected departure, saw City bring in Donnarumma at the last minute… and the Italian took everything: he’s the undisputed starter in the Premier League.
Result: Trafford feels cheated and is aiming to leave as early as January according to the Daily Mail. Newcastle, already beaten to him by City this summer, is preparing a new push to sign him. Ortega, too, sees the exit door: now relegated to fourthchoice keeper, he doesn’t even travel with the squad anymore.
Donnarumma with no backup
Problem for City: if both leave, there will be no one left behind Donnarumma… who himself is walking a fine line. The Italian goalkeeper already has four yellow cards — three for talking too much — and could become the first keeper in Premier League history to be suspended for yellowcard accumulation.
The atmosphere is electric in the goal of the English champions.
