As his contract with Nike expires in the summer of 2026, Kylian Mbappé is at the center of a major strategic battle between sportswear brands. According to RMC Sport, Nike is not guaranteed to come out on top.
What if Mbappé were to wear something other than Nike? For years, the player has been closely associated with the American brand, but that could change. The captain of the French national team is currently negotiating with the Swoosh brand to extend a partnership that began in 2019, but no financial agreement has yet been reached.
A high-stakes sponsorship battle ahead of the 2026 World Cup
The stakes are enormous for Nike with the 2026 World Cup approaching, set to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. A global star now playing for Real Madrid, Mbappé represents a key marketing asset. While he says he is comfortable wearing Nike boots, he is fully aware of his value and does not rule out listening to competing offers.
Adidas is closely monitoring the situation, especially since the German brand sponsors Real Madrid and has recently signed Rodrygo. Under Armour has also entered the race. Less prominent on the international stage, the American brand nevertheless has significant financial resources and has approached Mbappé, notably through his entourage, but is clearly trailing behind.
The striker’s financial demands run into tens of millions of euros and could set new standards. For its part, Nike is trying to build an offer worthy of those expectations while simultaneously working on another French prospect, Désiré Doué, who is currently without an equipment deal and highly sought after by major brands.
