FC Barcelona is active behind the scenes. Weakened by the serious injury to Andreas Christensen, the Catalan club is looking for a defensive reinforcement this winter. Among the options considered, the name of Nathan Aké (30) quickly emerged. But the situation soon turned into a headache.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Manchester City defender is indeed on Barça’s shortlist. Lacking playing time with the Sky Blues this season, the Dutch international seemed like an interesting opportunity… at least on paper.
A Deal That Looks Out of Reach
On Manchester City’s side, the stance is clear: no loan. The English club is demanding a straight transfer, estimated at 20 million euros, for the former Bournemouth player. A fee that remains completely out of reach for a Barça still constrained by its financial limits.
And that’s not all. Aké’s very high salary further complicates the equation. Even in the event of a loan, covering his wages would make the operation almost impossible for the Catalan board. As a result, Barça is now exploring more affordable alternatives. Aké’s profile is appealing, but the case already seems closed. In Barcelona, it will likely be time to turn to a plan B… or even a plan C.
