Fabian Ruiz, who was still being tipped to leave just a few days ago, is now reportedly on the verge of extending his contract with PSG. An incredible turnaround, as everything seemed to point to an imminent separation.
This weekend, Luis Enrique pointed the finger at the many fake news stories surrounding the Parisian club… and the Fabian Ruiz case would be one of the best examples. Under contract until June 2027, the Spanish midfielder could ultimately commit to the long term in the capital.
A sudden U-turn in Paris
At 29 years old, with 21 appearances and 2 goals in all competitions this season, the former Napoli player is now said to be very close to an agreement to extend his deal until June 2029, according to Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano.
A 180-degree turn, while his name had been strongly linked with a departure. Galatasaray was notably mentioned among the interested clubs, and internally his case no longer enjoyed unanimous support. The Spanish press even claimed that Paris was not particularly keen on extending him.
So what happened? Did PSG deliberately let doubt linger to apply pressure and speed up negotiations? A strategic move cannot be ruled out. One thing is certain: in just a few days, Fabian Ruiz has gone from being almost certain to leave to being a future contract extension. At PSG, the transfer window always holds surprises.
