N’Golo Kanté Signs for Fenerbahçe Despite Failed Transfer!

Transfer window drama: N’Golo Kanté’s move to Fenerbahçe has finally been approved — after initially collapsing at the last minute. The case experienced a spectacular twist, even though both clubs had first reached a full agreement. The player, deeply affected by the situation, continued to push for his departure.

The transfer to Fenerbahçe first fell through due to an administrative error on the Saudi side, triggering anger in Turkey and major frustration for the French midfielder, who wanted to join a more visible league ahead of the World Cup. A €5 million agreement between the clubs already existed, with the medical completed, documents submitted, and internal approvals finalized.

Administrative Error Nearly Blocked the Move

The blockage came from an incorrect entry in FIFA’s TMS system by the Saudi club, which prevented the official registration before the transfer deadline. Despite requests for an extension and discussions with the world governing body, the deal was initially rejected, leaving Kanté stuck in Saudi Arabia in what many described as an absurd scenario.

Tensions quickly escalated: according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Kanté even refused to train in order to force his exit. With the Saudi transfer window closed, his club could not sign a replacement if the sale went through, creating a major sporting risk after several key departures.

The saga ultimately ended well. After mediation with FIFA, the swap deal involving Kanté and striker Youssef En-Nesyri was officially validated. The French international has now signed with Fenerbahçe through June 2028.
