Blow for Real Madrid: Kylian Mbappé will miss the clash against SL Benfica at the Santiago Bernabéu. Struggling with a left knee issue since December, the French striker cut short his latest training session, and the coaching staff decided to rest him to avoid any aggravation ahead of crucial upcoming fixtures.
A real headache for coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who will be without his top scorer for a decisive encounter. Mbappé accounts for 45% of Madrid’s goals this season, highlighting the team’s heavy attacking dependence on him. In fact, in the last five Champions League matches he did not start, his side was defeated each time.
Real Madrid Concerned About Mbappé’s Knee and Possible Surgery
Real Madrid will therefore have to protect their narrow first-leg advantage earned in Lisbon (1-0) against SL Benfica without their main offensive weapon.
According to El Chiringuito, the club fears that Mbappé could eventually require surgery. “Mbappé wants to opt for conservative treatment for his knee… but if the situation does not improve, a minor procedure cannot be ruled out,” the Spanish outlet reported.
With the World Cup just weeks away, Real Madrid, the French national team, and Kylian Mbappé himself are holding their breath.
