UCL – PSG Nearly Through, Monaco Must Pull Off a Feat

After securing a 3-2 win in the first leg, Paris Saint-Germain approach the return match against AS Monaco with a slight advantage. Thanks to that success, the Parisian side is in a favorable position ahead of the clash at the Parc des Princes.

PSG and Monaco meet again this Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League. The second-leg playoff will determine who advances. According to Article 15 of UEFA’s knockout-stage regulations, qualification is decided over the two matches combined. The team that scores the most goals on aggregate qualifies. The away goals rule no longer applies.

Qualification Scenarios for PSG and Monaco

PSG will qualify if:
– They win
– They draw
– Even if they lose by a one-goal margin (0-1, 1-2), provided they remain ahead on aggregate across both matches
With their 3-2 advantage, Paris will go through as long as the overall score stays in their favor.

Monaco will qualify if:
– They win by at least a two-goal margin (e.g., 2-0, 3-1)
– Or win by a one-goal margin while scoring at least two goals (e.g., 3-2) to level the aggregate score and force extra time (Article 21)
If both teams are perfectly tied over the two matches, extra time — and potentially a penalty shootout — will decide the outcome. Paris have their fate in their own hands. Monaco, meanwhile, must deliver a major performance.
