PSG will have to dig deep: according to the experts at Football Meets Data, Paris have only a 50% chance of advancing… in a Champions League round of 16 that already looks daunting.
The warning signs are flashing for PSG. Based on Football Meets Data’s projections ahead of the draw, the Parisian club has just a 50% probability of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals. A figure that leaves Paris trailing far behind Europe’s main contenders.
PSG Face a Tough Champions League Draw
Arsenal (87%), Bayern Munich (79%), Liverpool (77%), and Manchester City (72%) all appear significantly better equipped according to the statistics. Even Barcelona (54%) and Chelsea (54%) are slightly ahead. Paris, meanwhile, moves forward with odds that resemble a coin toss.
And the challenge promises to be fierce. The draw scheduled for Friday at noon will determine the opponent: either Chelsea or FC Barcelona. Two explosive matchups on the horizon. Against the Blues, it would be a rematch of the Club World Cup final won by the London side this summer (3-0). Against Barça, there would be a sense of revenge, even though Paris secured a 2-1 win in Catalonia on October 1 during the league phase. In any case, PSG already knows there will be no breathing room. On March 10 or 11 at the Parc des Princes, then a week later away from home, they will have to be ready. With only a 50% chance predicted, Paris is playing for very high stakes.
