Shockwaves hit Spain this Thursday as Cristiano Ronaldo officially acquired 25% of UD Almeria through his company CR7 Sports. The Portuguese superstar is now a key shareholder in the Andalusian club, marking a major new step in his growing involvement in football ownership.
Currently sitting third in LaLiga2, Almeria is firmly in the promotion race, just two points behind leaders Racing Santander (50 to 48). With the arrival of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as an investor, the club’s ambitions are clearly reaching a new level.
Ronaldo’s Strategic Move Into Club Ownership
In an official statement, Almeria confirmed the Portuguese icon’s entry into its shareholder structure. The deal aligns with the international expansion strategy led by president Mohamed Al-Khereiji and his SMC Group. The objective is clear: strengthen the club’s foundations, secure promotion to LaLiga, and eventually compete with Spain’s top sides.
Ronaldo is already preparing for life after his playing career. Like former players such as Gerard Piqué, and active stars including Kylian Mbappé and Thibaut Courtois, he is investing heavily in football ventures. “My ambition is to contribute to football beyond the pitch,” he stated, praising “a club with strong foundations and significant growth potential.”
Under contract with Al-Nassr until 2027, the Portuguese forward will be 43 by then. Could he eventually suit up for Almeria to give his new project an extra boost? The possibility certainly adds another intriguing chapter to his remarkable career.
