Real Madrid will have to do without Kylian Mbappé for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Manchester City on Wednesday (9 p.m.). The Spanish club confirmed on Tuesday that the French striker will miss the match, as he is still struggling with a sprained left knee suffered on February 21 during the defeat against Osasuna.

Mbappé has resumed running in training after receiving treatment in Paris and could return for the second leg if the medical staff gives the green light. However, nothing has been decided yet.

Kylian Mbappé is even starting to worry about the World Cup. On his show on W9, Cyril Hanouna raised concerns, claiming the player should stop playing for the rest of the season if he wants to take part in the tournament. According to him, Mbappé’s knee is “more complicated than expected,” and the only way for him to play at the World Cup would be to stop playing immediately with Real Madrid to focus on rehabilitation. According to Cadena SER, Mbappé will not return until he is fully recovered, although other Spanish sources claim he could be back on the pitch within the next few days.
