Injured during the first half of the match against Flamengo (1-1) this Monday, Memphis Depay (32) watched the end of the game from the bench. However, the Corinthians forward was spotted using his phone.
Memphis Depay is once again making headlines, and not necessarily for the right reasons. The player was simply seen looking at his smartphone on the bench after being substituted — a gesture that is strictly prohibited by the rules.
Depay explains his phone use during the match
On social media platform X, the former Lyon player quickly responded: “I want to clarify that my phone call was solely to communicate with the Netherlands medical staff at that moment. I came off to support my team, even though I could have stayed in the locker room due to my injury.”
Injured, Depay could now miss the next training camp with the Dutch national team.
